Doppelganger!

Doppelganger" is German for "double walker" - a shadow self that is thought to accompany every person. Traditionally, it is said that only the owner of the doppelganger can see this phantom self, and that it can be a harbinger of death. Occasionally, however, a doppelganger can be seen by a person's friends or family, resulting in quite a bit of confusion.

I have lived in Uptown New Orleans for a long time, and I do not know if I believe in “doppelgangers” as much as I know I have had some close encounters with mine.

When I was 20 I went into a bar where I worked and all the bartenders, kitchen staff and clients looked like they had seen a ghost.

I asked what was up and all they could do was point and say: GO LOOK IN THE BACK ROOM NOW.

I was so “queered out” for a lack of better term, because there was a woman playing pool with a guy and she looked just like me. It was not just a resemblance, but all the mannerisms were there too. I left- feeling really odd.

Later on about 7 years, I would stop off at work at the Shell Station on Carrollton Ave and the people in there would question why I was back again so soon? Apparently my double and I were living in the same neighborhood. The people at the gas station said that not only did she look just like me, drinking the same coffee and getting the same Twinkie, but she was driving a red Acura too.

Then = worse, people started saying: I saw you out at Tipp’s last night, you were really fucked up and dancing up a storm. I can swear up and down as I had a steady boyfriend at the time, I was at home in bed; however the frequency of the sightings started to freak him out, where he became jealous and overly possessive. The relationship broke up.

I know I have had a history of sleep walking, but this was way above me being out and about- my “evil” double was on the roll.

Let me give the time frame another 3 years:

I went to A/P grocery store and a number of the clerks would say,” thanks Doc, we love you. “This always made me feel weird, but not weird enough to correct them, so I always just smiled and said “you are welcome!”

I did not hear anything about her again until:

Let’s give it even 5 years later, and I am in Star’Bs and the people; are saying what’s up with you, you were just in here. I was NOT just in there. Finally the manager made the employees stop commenting on it every time I came in because she knew it was bothering me. Who wants to see their Doppelganger or be reminded that they look just like someone else – even if she may be a long lost sister? Not me.

I went to my dermatologist for the first time and before he even looked at the chart to know who I was, he gave me a huge HUG and kisses on each cheek and said: “Doctor Ferran, I am a great admirer of you works at Tulane Med”

Well, I am not Dr. Ferran, and I wish that I had contributed to the betterment of biological research on contagious diseases, but I am simply Raspootin.

Dr. Claiborne was abashed, but after careful study he said the resemblance was great, but not identical. He suggested that we all got together for cocktails or coffee. NOT - I do not even have to run that by my psychiatrist - NEVER is a more apt term.

I then made the connection to the grocery store and was relieved that at least I was shadowing a great doctor, and I hope that when she gets feedback that she is equally satisfied with me.

I have cut my hair, dyed it and done a million things to try and differentiate from this woman, but apparently every time I do it, so does she.

I live in fear that I will come face to face with her by accident one day. I don’t think that would be good.

Please read the entire article about Doppelgangers thru the centuries – I found it interesting, and would like to know if anyone has ever had my experience with a “twin” in the same small city.

Naughty kathy or photoshop?

I am aghast :( seriously this was a photo put on the site of:

http://www.nolevee.com

I am thinking Ms. Blanco should be fairly happy with the shot, even if there was a certain amount of well let's be honest: cut her head off and paste it on someone else? "Someone else" does not look like a model; but looks better than she does: clothed? Wrong of me: I do not know what she looks like sans clothing so maybe it is her?

ALL IN ALL I don’t think she looks half bad for 60ish in the picture,

The real thought is about the ethics of doing something like that. I coin the phrase recently introduced to me: Ethics are not on a sliding scale. Ethics are not on a sliding scale, but one wonders if there WAS such a thing as NO sliding scale, what Kathleen Blanco did to have this posted all over the internet and in a publication sitting in the doctor’s office (where I picked it up after an 80+ lady left it with a smirk and giggle)

Lasissez les beaux temps rouleax en La Nouvelle Orleans.

Ms. Blanco is not running for re- election, but maybe Hugh Hefner will want a spread?

SMUG

smug

• adjective (smugger, smuggest) irritatingly pleased with oneself; self-satisfied.

I know Tweety Bird is a male - but this reminds me of a friend of mine when I saw her Sunday afternoon. She was being very smug about her Saturday night, and then changed her 'toon' to " what me I did not do anything?" "why what did you hear?"

This was a guy friend Sunday morning. He declined to tell me what he was smug about - but he definitely could not stop smiling.

I am happy that my friends all had good Saturday nights. I am not jealous and I am not comparing my Saturday night to theirs: as mine only included a craw fish boil and an engagement party filled with smug couples. I think I was the only single attendee - but at least I made the effort to go.

Back to my smug friends. The definition includes "self Satisfaction" (nothing wrong with self satisfaction) but it also implies that one feels like they are better, smarter or more fortunate than the person who they are acting smug around; which is not a very 'friend-like' approach not to mention irritating...

I think that someone Bragging is less insulting than a person acting smug.

brag

• verb (bragged, bragging) say something boastfully.

Off the Iraq Hook...

"I know Prince Harry will be extremely disappointed and his soldiers will miss his presence in Iraq.

"I've asked his commanding officer to develop his future career but I won't speculate on that.

"One of the contributing factors to my decision has been the knowledge and discussion of the Prince's deployments in the media."

Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt

I don't think they ever planned to send Harry to Iraq, but needed to pretend to do so to keep the "Stiff British upper lip" image in tact.

The media is a very believable and convenient excuse to keep the "spare" safe.

Praise the Lord?

The “moral majority” has never even entered my mind as something less than intelligent with ignorant and intolerant thrown in as “I” words.

My morals are good and Mr. Falwell has always acted as the insult to my intelligence there in for decades.

I can not say I am sorry he is dead, as dead is a place that he focused his ministry with God and the after life on. If you therein believe – he is in a much better place.

Where my problem lays is with the continuance of his legacy and his lack of separation with Church and State. Mr. Falwell felt that making God part of his legacy with regard to lobby efforts on behalf of what he believed from the Bible was correct.

I have every assurance after listening to The Rush Limbaugh show today that anything I say as a negative is something pre- mediated and therefore disowned and discounted by the Right Winged Christians who held Falwell as a hero.

I do not want this man to die as a martyr. He is, was and always will be a narrow minded right winged religious zealot.

I am very sad that according to the “fill in host” on Rush Limbaugh today that as a liberal my comments are so very predicable; meaning, that is what ”we” as left liberals will all say, my thoughts/comments on Reverend Falwell's death are not relevant.

I beg to differ on the presumption that I do not think anyone has the right to tell me how to think or what my moral standard is simply because it is not bible driven. Nor should a minister have enough power with my congress and senate to force my children to pray in school. Religion should not be a mandatory thing, it should be a matter of faith and if a child wants to pray out loud or in silence – that is a choice not something that should be mandated by a “god fearing” school system.

It is a shame that Rush and his staff pander the right with not feeling guilt about making money off the left. Let’s face it – Rush’s show would suck if we all agreed. The people who think he is divine as those who thought Falwell was divine – are crazed.

What makes the person is the diversity and opposition therein and that drives the money born from the flesh or wool of sheep.

Baa Baa Baa..

WBC =

HATE

A friend of mine was browsing You Tube for 911 conspiracy theories and came across this video:

I was hoping, after listening to most of the video, that it was a hoax and there was no such person a Reverend Fred Phelps. Alas, it is true. He and his“virulently homophobic church” exist and are active in over 22 states, slinging intolerance and hate.

The American government is spending money on trying to establish democracy in other areas of the world and root out Islamic Jihad Fundamentalists. Perhaps they should look out for the crazy Christian fundamentalists in their backyard before they get into deep dog doo here in the US.

I have no doubt that anyone reading this, regardless of their affliation, knows what it means to doo doo in your own backyard.

Interestingly enough when I mention to my American friends that there is a group of “Would be American Christian Soldiers” training to wreak their religious havoc on us – they tell me I am paranoid and crazy.

The Christian Soldiers are every bit as intolerant with regard to people who do not share their beliefs as Islamic Jihad Soldiers. The big difference is that we are on the look out for the “foreign” element and blinded by the “national”.

Andrea?

Cindy

Cindy hit the New Orleans area as a minor hurricane early in the season ( may ) of 2005.

Katrina

Katrina hit the New Orleans area in late August 2005

Andrea

Andrea is, like Cindy the earliest tropical storm to hit since 2005.

Not coming this way, though you can find a computer model that will predict almost anything...

I hope this is not a weather predictor for the Carolinas or Georgia. We thought we were done after Cindy in 2005 and then - history records the rest with Rita and Wilma wrapping it up.

Obama placed under Secret Service protection

Please note this was said as a cover 2 years before it happened.

How about 2008? I hope we are better prepared before Obama wins the CA nomination...

'Not aware it was based on any threat,' agency spokesman says

After watching the movie "Bobby" I think this is a good preemptive move by homeland security. Very glad to know after living here during Katrina that they are so on top of things.

Seriously, I am glad as Barak Obama has the name against him, as did Bobby Kennedy.

Whether you choose to believe Sirhan Sirhan assassinated Robert Kennedy without help from political factions or not; please do not discount the threat to Obama.

We do not live in a sane America. We live in one focused on extremely fundamental or extremely ignorant. Sirhan Sirhan was probably paid off by the oil companies or The Mafia.

The would be Obama assassin will definitely be the Asinine - sh—t that is doing it based on Obama's(Muslim name) and an assumed political preference that he/she will attribute to a religious or racial affiliation.

I think I might just vote for Obama - I like what he has to say

Do I need to take a moron pill to get it?

Obviously this would not be amusing if they had interviewed informed people. However, think about who is voting in this country and if this is even a small cross section I do not hold out much hope for the future of the Unites States.

Makes me wonder if some of the people interviewed would ask: "Whats a moron pill?"
