ALEXANDRIA, Virginia - Ready for the latest in spa pampering? Prepare to dunk your feet in a tank of water and let tiny carp nibble away.

I dunno there is just something that seems a bit fishy to me about all this :)

PETA

"This is a way to get the message into the mainstream," she said. "It’s irresponsible to let your children have unprotected sex and it’s irresponsible to not spay and neuter your animals when we’re in an animal overpopulation crisis in the United States."

Interestingly enough PETA decided to debut the ad in Kentwood, LA home of Britney and her sister Jamie Lynn – think that was part of their tongue and cheek effort to get animals fixed?

Wow I would be more than just a tad insulted if I were the Spears Sisters.

Raspootin is amused and approves of this ad :) hee hee Jamie and Britney should get fixed Ha - ookay another thought is did Mrs. Spears perhaps give her daughters this advice and they took it seriously?

Sunny Afternoon

This is a picture of my friend’s twin daughters. I was really impressed with daddy’s idea for a creative sunny afternoon. He purchased a long roll of paper from Home Depot price $3.00. Some paint: $10.00 some spay bottles in which to put the paint $5.00 and gave them to his children to create their very special one of a kind art master piece: Priceless :)

The Catholic Church gone wild

A college student attending a Catholic University in FL took a wafer out of the church without swallowing it.

If this is what the Archdiocese terms “a hate crime” then they as an organization are even more profoundly hypercritical than I initially thought. Pedophile Priests, controlling people through the threat of eternal damnation, Nuns swatting young children with rulers, well these seem more like “acts of hate” that should not be tolerated in my limited opinion on the subject.

The following is what ensued.

"Webster gave the wafer back, but the Catholic League, a national watchdog organization for Catholic rights claims that is not enough. “We don’t know 100% what Mr. Cooks motivation was,” said Susan Fani a spokesperson with the local Catholic diocese. “However, if anything were to qualify as a hate crime, to us this seems like this might be it.”

We just expect the University to take this seriously,” she added “To send a message to not just Mr. Cook but the whole community that this kind of really complete sacrilege will not be tolerated"

supply & demand gone amuck

You might remember when this accident happened...8 years ago this March. This Southwest Airlines flight from Vegas overshot the runway at Burbank. The plane smashed past the airport fence, careened across the street and ended up with a collapsed landing gear, right next to a gas station. But that's not the amazing part...look at the picture below!!!

a Saturday giggle

Pictured above the offending furniture O_0

My friend Al recently moved into his mother’s house with his partner to help care for her. In the move they found they had too much furniture. So he tried yard sales and listing the items on Craig’s List. Below is a comment from someone who did not even purchase the furniture. I could not help but laugh as it was such a rude comment from someone who apparently did not even know him. Meredith Lancaster must be a very angry lady with way too much time on her hands!

"I found this both disturbing and amusing, especially since my sale has been doing so well. I have sold a half dozen pieces already in the $200-$300 range to very nice folks. I did not satiate her with a reply. Talk about bitter bitch with too much time on her hands...." Al

Evidently the subject of Intelligent Design is not very provoking, so moving right along, thanks Woozie; I caught George Washington on The Tome and could not resist this one about Jesus Christ.

Is Intelligent design taught in school - an intelligent idea?

A friend of mine and I were talking about THIS bill which was just introduced in to the Louisiana State Legislature. In a nut shell it is mandating that intelligent design be taught as part of the science curriculum in public schools.

To be very honest, I am not sure what type of materials the school board would use to teach intelligent design, nor exactly what basis they would place the teaching on, given that I would assume THE BIBLE should not be used as a reference book.

To this end I sent an email to my friend Stephen who is a Physics teacher in a charter School here in New Orleans and asked him for his opinion. I wanted to know how he would feel, if forced to teach intelligent design. I assume once again that intelligent design might be taught by the biology teacher under the topic of Human Genome using Sanford’s book. The premise of his book states:

" The conclusion is that we were created perfect, have been headed downhill ever since and the human race cannot be a thousand generation old yet. Solutions are not in better technology but a relationship with God who will take us out of this decaying creation at the proper time."

Well Stephen took a very proactive approach and wrote the following letter to Governor Jindal:

Governor Jindal-
I write to you today in reference to SB 733, a misguided attempt to suggest specific alterations to the teaching of Science in Louisiana schools. Legislation of this type is an inappropriate tool for improving education, if that were indeed its true intention. Since that is how it has been presented, it is worthy of being confronted on just such a level. I believe that my position on the subject is an informed one, and I hope that you have the time to consider it fully.

I am a Physics teacher at Lusher Charter School here in New Orleans, though I have taught at Catholic schools in the 12 preceding years. During that time, I have been awarded two national teaching awards, and spoken to groups on the subject of science teaching. Like all good teachers of science, I labor to demonstrate to my students how a theory is constructed from evidence, and the principle that any theory may be discarded if contradictory evidence is discovered. As most well educated individuals understand, these principles are foundational to science.

History has no shortage of scientific theories which have been discarded. New facts sometimes come to light, and a new, more comprehensive theory must be developed to incorporate all available evidence. The study of this process in science classes reveals the true strength of the scientific method and encourages students to be critical thinkers. For that reason, it is an intrinsic part of a well-rounded science education. On its surface, SB 733 may appear to promote teaching about this process, but the specific topics named represent inappropriate choices.
For example, SB 733 suggests critical analysis of evolution. One can only assume that additional materials to provide for critical discussion of evolution would rely heavily on the recent challenges to the theory of evolution posed by William Dembski and others. These challenges involved computational methods that are complex enough to be debated among experts – hence, a genuine scientific debate that has been dubbed “Intelligent Design” by the popular media. However, the evidence that was used to support Dembski’s conjecture is beyond the mathematical abilities of secondary students, as is the evidence that refutes his claim. Primary and secondary students do not have the capacity to think critically about different experts’ evaluation of the statistical probability of the random assembly of amino acids. As a result, the debate is inaccessible as a topic for a secondary science class. This fact points directly to the inappropriate nature of this type of legislation.

Despite language that clearly shows an understanding of good scientific education pedagogy, SB 733 suggests a course of action that is pedagogically suspect. This is not surprising, as Senators Nevers, Crowe, Riser, and Thompson are not and never have been science educators. Decisions about the proper context within which to teach inquiry content standards are best left to the professionals that have successfully taught them, not those elected by popular majority. For this reason, as an educator, I urge you to veto this bill should it reach your desk.

Stephen Collins

P.S.
I have been led to believe that you are a man of faith, and may be one of the many who are sometimes troubled by the ideas of science. If this is indeed the case, consider the words of Guy Consulmagno, who has this to say about the official position of the Catholic church on matters of science: "[the Vatican] wants to make a strong statement that truth doesn't contradict truth; that if you have faith, you're never going to be afraid of what science comes up with.", (Quoted in issue 2624 of New Scientist magazine, 06 October 2007, page 12).

I would be interested in people’s comments or thoughts about intelligent design as part of a public school curriculum.

WTF?

http://www.wdsu.com/news/16634012/detail.html

I would like to know what The Army Corps of Engineers has been doing for the past 3 years?

Hello even before Katrina the corps was saying that the levees would hold in a Cat 3-4 storm. So where has the Federal money been spent?

I have to believe that the people who rebuilt their homes after flooding during Katrina felt that they were being assured that the levees would withstand at least a category 2 hurricane. If New Orleans floods again, you can kiss this city goodbye. Folks are not going to go through it twice. I feel like once again I have been lied to by the Federal Government (who is in charge of the Corps of Engineers), the Mayor and the State.

Dream Interpretation please?

I had a rather off putting dream last night. It kind of made me question what I would do in reality if this situation arose. Of course as it was a dream, well I doubt that reality will ever have anything to do with it.

I was in my friend Melissa’s playroom. Mind you Melissa was my childhood best friend and I have not been in her play room for over 25 years. Evidently she was supplying the venue as she never showed up in the dream. Sitting on her sofa is a person, who I’m not going to name as I don’t want to freak them out. So I shall just call “the person” “Max” as that can go for a man or a woman. The person is someone I know well.

So Max is sitting on the sofa and all of a sudden turns pale. I ask what is wrong and Max replies that Max does not feel well. Max of clutches his/her chest then dies.

Okay, I am once again sitting in the playroom, this time I am in there with Max and my friends Leah and Eric. The difference is that this time around it is the day before Max dies. Leah and Eric and I know that Max is going to die the next day, but we don’t want to tell Max.

When Max has a shortness of breath we all look at each other expectantly, knowingly and I ask Eric if I should give Max one of my clonazepam pills to calm Max down. Eric looks at me like duhhh Raspootin give Max a pill; ya know Max is going to die anyway.

So Max leaves the room and Leah says, we have to tell Max that Max is going to die. I’m like no way, if Max is going to die anyway we should just give Max the best last day of Max’s life. Eric interjects that perhaps Max has a second chance, and if we tell Max he/she is going to die that maybe Max could do something about it. We all looked at each other for a while and I said, but what if there is nothing that Max can do about dying? Instead of having the best last day ever, all Max will be doing is worrying about dying.

Max, Eric, Leah and I are then all on a merry go round. It is spinning and spinning really fast and we are all hysterically laughing.

Then I woke up.

I realize that this was just a dream, but what would you do if you knew that someone had only one day to live; or maybe not… my dream did not tell me what I would do. I don’t believe in predestination, but I do believe in free will, so would telling the person change the outcome, or just make their last day the worst in their life.

Here I go again

I know that most of the United States thinks that Katrina is like a dead horse that we all keep kicking. I am over Katrina, forgive, forget no, but move on yes.

However, when I see videos like this, the anger with FEMA and the Louisiana State Government all comes back.

WTF do bureaucrats all live in a bubble? Do they even bother checking out what a situation is before making stupid decisions? And, most importantly why were all these donated items sitting in a warehouse for 2-3 years after the event that they were specifically earmarked for.

I still, have yet to understand what happened to the Millions of dollars that people gave to help New Orleans and The Gulf Coast? Well, at least now I understand what happened to some of it.

I’ll just plug as an ending comment that Kathleen Blanco saw fit to give a $700 million contract ( road home money) to a VA based company to administer the Federal dollars that were suppose to go to homeowners that were under insured. I think the State got around $1.5 billion, I’m no super wiz, but even I can see that with 200,000 homes destroyed that the contract amount was going to leave a short fall for most folks.

I will stop, because I can go on and on and on at nausea on the miss- management subject.

Any way this is the CNN report that got me pissed off:

The second video is the one, that really upset me.

Christian soldiers?

Whenever I watch this clip I end up absolutely appalled. What makes it even worse is that when I tell my friends about Jesus Camp, they all think it’s not true. Get a grip! It is true and it is scary! That lady is a crazy bitch and no one seems to care that she is indoctrinating these children. If she is the “teacher” imagine what the parents are like?

Jesus Camp always makes me think of this song. In fact, truth be told, I was trying to find a youtube spoof of it when I can across the Jesus Camp clip. Needless to say, I could not find anyone that dared to make fun of it.

Spanked: Hillary & Obama play nice!

Goodness, “goodness” sounds like something my grandmother would have said, but I really am astounded after hearing Hillary’s non- and Obama’s yea.

This is to say, Hillary did not give it up, but gave the best speech of her campaign.

This is to say Obama gave a great speech that did not doctorate as being the Democratic Nomination winner.

This is to say Obama is going to announce his win when he announces Ms. Clinton as his running mate.

I never imagined that this would happen. I never thought Hillary would be afforded the chance to address her constituents with such an amazing speech.

I think the Democratic Party has told them both: YOU will get along and you will run as the super ticket. “ or you will be spanked ya bad children: play nice”

Like I said, I am surprised. Perhaps, according to the people that I watched both speeches with, I am wrong.

I feel very confident that I am correct. I will be glad to have the Super Ticket to vote for.

And as my other thoughts about McCain go, if this Obama / Clinton ticket is introduced, McCain will give the nod to Bobby Jindal.

Hell what do I know: just stating an educated guess?

2 guys for Tuesday

This gave me a laugh, so I'm sharing the too politically incorrect, correct giggle factor.

I am not sure I agree that this is a Patriotic photo if indeed many of the soldiers were passing out from heat exhaustion. However, it certainly is an interesting and amazingly well staged piece of art.

It kind of puts Spencer Tunic to shame.

Can you afford to get milk?

Milk price are way up. New Orleans has the most expensive milk in the nation at $4.38 per gallon, according to the USDA.

I wonder why?

The article did not mention anything about other dairy products just milk. I am puzzled.

The LSU Ag Center is suggesting people combat the record high milk prices by buying some powered milk and mixing it up with water then mixing that with regular milk. "It will taste closer to normal milk, and you'll get it for a much lower price," says Dr. Heli Roy.

Yuck - the only thing nastier than milk would be powdered milk.

Jindal for VP?

How shallow am I?
Evidently quite shallow mixed with very fickle.

I am leaning towards voting for McCain if he gives the VP nomination to Bobby Jindal. You may ask why a staunch Democrat who did not even vote for Jindal either time he ran for Governor, would change party affiliation at this point in time.

Frankly I do not see much difference in any of the Presidential candidate’s rhetoric when it comes down to what they are going to do to pull us out of the shit hole created by the Bush administration.

Politics mandates each candidate say what he or she think the people want to hear. It does not mandate that they will ever follow through with their campaign promises. It is very easy to blow off promises and explain the lack of resolution on Congress or The Senate.

So, Why Bobby Jindal and McCain? I think this is a good combination of age and experience melded with youth and new ideas. I did not vote for Jindal as I said, but I have been very impressed with his initial performance as Governor. He has actually followed through on all of his campaign promises and immediately tackled the Political Ethics issue, something that is long over due in Louisiana.

I also think that it definitely could not hurt this State to have one of our own as Vice President. Who knows, given McCain’s age and health issues we just might have ourselves a President.

Will I vote McCain if he does not give Bobby Jindal the job, No – back to Obama. Like I said see how fickle I am?

castration anyone?

BATON ROUGE -- A proposal to impose chemical castration on rapists and other sex offenders has moved to the Louisiana House.
Senate Bill 144 by Sen. Nick Gautreaux, D-Abbeville, won approval Wednesday from the House Criminal Justice Committee.
The panel narrowed the bill with an amendment that would allow judges to impose chemical castration on males convicted of just five sex crimes: aggravated rape, forcible rape, second-degree sexual battery, aggravated incest and aggravated crime against nature.
In an earlier version, the bill also included crimes such as kidnapping that did not involve sex.

I am not sure if I agree that chemical castration is the way to go. For one thing, it is only effective if the injections are given in a conscientious manner and consistently monitored.

Once the injection of Depo –Provera wears off, it leaves the sexual offender at a higher level of testosterone with a renewed predatory sexual drive.

I guess as a woman it would be easy for me to advocate castration; as I would never be in the position to have my balls chopped off. The only hesitation that I have with permanent castration is what if there is a mistake? There is not much that can be done to repair that type of error.

I am just wondering; if Chemical Castration does not keep a rapist from fantasizing about rape, and will render the pedophile, rapist etc. even more violent in his tendencies if he is able to surpass the system and avoid the injections, well is it worth administering the drug in the first place?

Puddle of Mud: Psycho

Video

Puddle of Mud is fast becoming one of my favorite bands. I guess they have been around for quite some time. The lead singer Wes Scantlin has definitely been around the block a couple of times playing with Alice in Chains and Chris Cornell and other notable artists.

This video surprised me because as much as I liked the song, it really captured my imaginings of the lyrics. Not only did it hit the spot, but it is also very entertaining.

I do fail to understand why the band makes it so hard access their information; everything even on Youtube has the embedding disabled. On their website the information is scanty and even lacks biographical information. This does not seem like a good promotional approach, but then again I am not their manager so what the hell do I know.

I do know Wes Scantlin is HOT!!! Guess that is good promotion all in of itself.

and God said keep pushin them out

I know that is not my place to judge, but judge I will. Someone, please send these people to Planned Parenthood for birth control; lots of birth contol, lots of counseling.

My Blog. Ergo my opinion: It is freaking/fucking (word choice appropriate) obscene to have 17 children and be happy about the impending birthing of an 18th.

The thing that makes this all particularly disgusting to me is that the family, Eldest 20 youngest just born, are all part of a Discovery Channel program that chronicles their lives. The lives of people who breed like rats. They are no doubt ecstatic about the new bundle of joy in the oven as it will definitely keep the ratings up and the show providing them with the income to justify their over usage of our nation’s resources.

Also just to verify, the parents who are both 41 are the actual biological creator and incubator of their brood of offspring.

"The success in a family is first off, a love for God, and secondly, treating each other like you want to be treated," Jim Bob Duggar said. "Our goal is for each one of our children to be best friends, and everybody working together to serve each other makes that happen."
The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jennifer, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 16; Jessa, 15; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 10; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 7; James, 6; Justin, 5; Jackson, 3; and Johannah, 2.

afternoon numbness and nickel exploration

My Co Worker and I were experiencing that feeling of extreme lethargy that one gets around 2:00 when you know that there are still 3 hours to go and your lunch is making you sleepy.

So after discussing why water does not give you energy, contemplating drinking a Coke and opting to take vitamins instead we moved along to looking at our change. How we happened to start looking at our change is just one of the inexplicable turns in the road that life throws us on occasion. I think there must have been some sort of Freudian thing looking at change when board. Dunno:not that deep…

Yes I know, work is really demanding. Anyway I noticed 2 different nickels in my pile of change. I’m like geeze when did they change the nickels? I never noticed that before. Luckily for my intelligence esteem she had never noticed either.

This discovery led her to the following SITE , which even though it is set up for kids, is really interesting.

Check it out!

I know; no posts for 10 days and this is all I can come up with? Well for the first time ever in my search for Jesus or Mary in: The Wall, In The Cheese Sandwich, In The Lungs, In The Water, In The Corn Flake, In The Poop (that was kinda gross); I can actually see what the woman is talking about.

It looks like Jesus being crucified. Why the woman thinks this is a good thing to have in her womb is (kinda weird) but to each his or her own.

It can happen anywhere...

I walked out of my house yesterday evening to go meet a friend and as I went towards my car I heard BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM.

The guys that were cutting my neighbor’s grass yelled at me to “hit the ground” I did not need to be asked twice. Then my neighbor from the other side came out to see what had happened and they yelled at her, hit the ground. We then heard a squeal of tires.

The gardener said, “I know what that was it had to be an automatic weapon because it sounded just like what we were using in Iraq.” He then went on to say he was sorry that he had told us to get down, but wherever the gun shots had come from was so close that is was possible that the bullets might have traveled.

Marion and I did not have a problem, as both of us initially thought that is was a worker having a problem with his tools – don’t know what sort of tool would make that sound, but I have never heard anything that loud in succession before. It was kind of scary.

Anyway, this is the story, and yes it did happen 1.5 blocks from my house. Not good for the neighborhood, and really bad for the guy that was murdered.

dream interpretation please?

I have been having some really weird dreams. Last night’s was particularly odd. I have no idea why I would have dreamed this. I am not sure if it was a nightmare or a sex dream; either way I woke up all sweaty(ewewee)

I was in bed with Spock and Captain Kirk. Spock was evidently my lover in the dream. He was in the middle with me to his left and CK to his right. CK had this long metal object with a light on the end of it that was some sort of weapon. He kept telling Spock to stop paying attention to me and play with him. Well it was not play as in a sexual play but like hey this is my little toy and I want to show it to you.

Spock kept on saying stop pointing that thing Jim you are going to hurt her (me). CK is like well I am just playing I won’t hurt her. Then all of a sudden the wind is knocked out of me because Spock throws himself on top of me. Again nothing sexual, though I knew in the dream that my relationship with him was sexual and CK was jealous. So when he gets off of me he leans over to KC and said “I told you to stop playing with that thing Jim you almost killed her with it”. Then he did the Vulcan Pinch to CK’s shoulder. He then rolled over and turned to me and said lets have sex, he is not going to wake up anytime soon.

I then woke up.

I then went back to sleep and dreamed the same dream again.

Gosh I think I could have at least had a little nooky with him before waking up each time :) Actually more to the point why couldn’t I have been in bed with Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt?

a question of proceedure?

I found an unidentified object (UO) in my salad on Monday night. After recovering from my initial disgust I put the object which kind of looked like 25 fossilized condoms in a plastic baggy.

I showed the object to a couple of friends at The Mayfair to see what they thought it was. The consensus was that at the very best definitely not fossilized condoms which made me feel better.

One of the bartenders said that I should bring the UO over to the restaurant that I got the salad from and let them know that they needed to be more careful. We all eat at this place a lot and the serving staff comes into the Mayfair daily.

I could not really be bothered to go over, thinking that it would definitely gross out the restaurant patrons if I all of a sudden pulled out the baggy with the UO still covered in salad dressing and complained.

Another Bartender who has been my friend for 20 years said: “Give me the UO and I will show it to the manager of the restaurant as he typically comes in for a cocktail when his shift is over.”

So I give her the UO in the baggy and don’t really think anything more about it. Well, I walked into the Mayfair last night, after what I must say was a very bad hair day, and my friend is sitting at the Video Poker machine. She calls me over and says that she talked to the manager and get this: The manager was mad at MOI because I showed the UO to my friends. My friend told me that he said the appropriate thing would have been to take it over in a brown paper bag and discreetly ask for him and he would have noted the complaint. He then told her he was very disappointed in my behavior.

I told my friend that’s BS I did not do anything wrong, the restaurant did something wrong. There should not have been a UO in my salad and further more I could have choked to death on it.

My friend looked at me and said: “Well I think the manager is correct. You did show it to me and a couple of other people.” Well that response really pissed me off. In fact it pissed me off so bad that I had to immediately walk away before I said something that I would not regret at the time, but probably would later. Not really worth losing a friend over an UO in your salad. Then I got to thinking, would a true friend take up for the manager at the Restaurant, or would they side with me?

Well the issue was resolved when my friend eventually apologized to me. I accepted the apology, but noted that she never said she was wrong with her take on the situation, but simply said she was sorry to have been nasty – she was having a bad hair day too.

I do not think I did anything wrong. Please someone tell me what your take on it is. I think I am still irritated.

buds of a feather smoke together

I was reading about legalized medical marijuana in California – why ? No idea, but came across a story about how some of the distribution facilities were selling vials named “Tom Cruise Purple” with a picture of TC on the front laughing hysterically. The head line read: Tom Cruise Purple Medical Marijuana has Actor Smoking Mad.

Sarcky and funny in my opinion, but I guess he is figuring out how to sue them.

At any rate the story led me through a number of others until I came across this. I think I saw a portion of this on The Tome, but not the whole thing ITS worth the watch. Spoofin' at its best.

If he successfully sues perhaps they can replace his picture with one of these people:

babar has talent?

I am not really sure what to say about this, but I think I could definitely sell it in my gallery!

Does the elephant have an innate talent? Was he or she taught? Does it really matter? This is a discussion that human artists have with critics: are you a better artist because you have paid $100K for a degree or are you actually a more talented artist because you are self taught?

Regardless, this is rather impressive:

blahhhh bah humbug

I have been a bit pissy lately and this made me laugh as it reminds me of the type of arguments I pick when I feel in a bad mood.

Apologies to Robert, Tommy, Scott and David.

A letter to Denise

Good Morning Denise,

I know I should have just let the Obama subject drop with Tommy, but it makes me so mad when a person states an opinion from their ass based on poor facts and general racism. He basically he does not like Obama because of his name. Tommy has never bothered to listen to what the man is saying yet feels certain that he knows everything about Obama.

That mixed with his newly arising anti- gay rhetoric makes it really difficult to talk to him in a civil manner.

I really do not care who someone votes for as long as they do it based on an educated, informed thought. Tommy’s Obama bash was based on ignorance and frankly if one of our friends, who I think is fairly intelligent, can be so fucking obtuse, well I found it very scary; it means there are a lot more like him out there.

All I was asking him to do was listen to the speech in its entirety before making an opinion. Make his opinion based on the speech and his right to agree or disagree; not an opinion stated as fact, formed by the right wing talk groups that he loves to listen to during the day. He was spouting crap that was taken out of context.

This is Garland Robinette’s response to Obama’s speech. I have always thought Garland to be fair minded, and this is not an exception. I agree to a large part with what he is saying. No doubt Tommy would start to change his mind if he took the time to realize that his favorite Garland was still supporting Obama.

Anyway sorry to have made the evening disruptive; good thing Scott, Pat and David L were not there, I think someone might have ended up dead :)

I just feel passionate about informed opinions. HOW can a person have an opinion on a speech if they never heard it? I guess that was my ultimate point.

this is the speech

-A few weeks ago I was for Obama.

-Last week after viewing the quotes of Obama’s pastor, I was for McCain.

-After watching Obama’s podium response to the controversy... I am for…Keep reading and you’ll hear where I’m coming from.

My thoughts are different than most I’ve heard following the Obama speech. My decision (thus far) is grounded in the Arab oil embargo of the United States in 1973. Picture the long lines at the gas pumps. Filling a tank could take hours. Much of the time the gas ran out before the line did. Picture the fistfights that broke out between those jockeying to get to the pumps first. Now, (stay with me, I know I think a lot differently than most) imagine going up to ANYone in line and saying…”hey, how you doin’, man--I can’t believe what they doing with this stem-cell research thing. Plus, how about abortion--man that’s murder…and don’t even get me started with the racist minorities!” (Truthfully now!) What do you think the driver’s response would be --at best-- I think they would think you were nuts. You would be totally oblivious to the problem that is threatening them and their family’s lifestyle…right now!. What does this have to do with Obama, McCain, Hillary and us? Everything!
We seem to have lost any ability to prioritize by risk assessment. I have spent many hours on radio and my personal life fighting racism and all the ignorance it represents. I have talked about it when many of your emails and calls said, enough!
But not now! I don’t think this issue is in the top 10 of those things threatening our nation. We are on the precipice of a gas line. All it will take is some sort of international crisis and there are plenty of examples that could explode on the world at any moment. If it does, I promise you will have no interest in racism, conservative versus liberal, or even cameras at stop lights. You will be afraid. You will be angry. You will need a leader.
For a moment, let’s switch gears. I did not believe what Obama said in most of his response speech. I suspect that most of his talk was what he had to say to retain his base. I don’t believe you can be “family” for twenty years with a person who verbalizes that much hatred for anything without being aware of his beliefs…especially someone as smart as Obama. His thoughts may not be exactly the same as his pastor, but at the same time similar (perhaps subliminally). I suspect this to be the case because he has traveled a road that no black man, or white man has been down. Obama is a gray man. Not white enough. Not black enough. But a gray man that found a place (church) to lend voice to his experience.
Obama is a politician. No politician can be elected without partially lying to us about many of the important issues. They all have focus groups and media pulse testing. If they choose to ignore those results and substitute with their true belief system, they will never be elected. Thus, in order to lead based on their true beliefs; they must lie in some form or fashion in order to get into a leadership position. Not their fault…ours. We don’t want to hear the truth. Don’t warn us about Social Security! Don’t warn us about Medicare! Don’t warn us that we may have to drive energy stingy cars! Don’t call on us to pay all benefits for injured war vets! We don’t want to hear the call of sacrifice!
So why in the world would I support (at least for now) a man I think did not tell the whole truth in what might have been the most important speech of his life? Because, I think I see a leader. A gray man standing in the middle of a firestorm, radiating calm and intelligence. I have seen this in war. I have seen this in business. I know this to be rare.
To lend irony to my view, I also think John McCain is a leader and I agree with much of his platform more than I do Obama or Hillary. But he is 70+ years old. I know his mother is a great looking 96 and he may well have her longevity. But he has health issues and I, as a “senior” citizen can attest to the fact that health issues can cloud your ability to function as you like. Plus, consider the fact that one in every three vice-presidents has become the leader of the United States. I don’t want to take the chance that someone we don’t Know…someone we didn’t vote for…can influence the future of our families at this crucial time in history.
As for Hillary, I am sure she is very smart. She may also be a leader, but I don’t want two families running this country for more than twenty years. It’s that simple. I am tired of the Bush. I am tired of the Clinton.
Yes, I want change. I want a leader.

Scuttlebutt?

I received an email from a high school friend from London last night who I have not been in contact with for over 15 years. She said that she was going to be in the New Orleans area and would like to meet up with me. As we continued to “chat” she told me that she converted to Islam a year ago because she is dating an Iranian man who is working on his doctorate at Cambridge. She then went on to say that when he finishes his courses they are going to travel though out the US (hence the trip to New Orleans) and then they are going to move back to Iran and get married.

I was glad that this was all done via email as my mouth dropped open. It is of course none of my business, and I know that no good comes of giving an honest unsolicited opinion when discussing “matters of the heart”, but I really felt like asking her if she was f’ng crazed?

It just so happens that yesterday my ex- husband was discussing a business opportunity that he had in Saudi Arabia. When I asked him if he was going to go, he said “F no”. Then directed me to a website that listed all the medications that are banned in Saudi Arabia; possession punishable by imprisonment or public flogging. He is bi- polar and as you might note from this LIST the Saudi’s don’t want anybody that has a cold, a headache and definitely do not want anyone that is dependant on any sort of “psychotic” drugs. Evidently horny old men or takers of Viagra are also on the no no list.

Well I digress from the story about my friend. It is just a coincidence that after my ex and I were discussing Saudi Arabia that I looked up “warnings” from the State Department and came across the following nugget of information which is really scary:
Non-Iranian-national women who marry Iranian citizens gain Iranian nationality upon marriage. If the marriage takes place in Iran, the woman’s U.S. passport will be confiscated by Iranian authorities. They likewise must have the consent of their husbands to leave Iran or, in his absence, must gain the permission of the local prosecutor. Because of Islamic law, compounded by the lack of diplomatic relations between the United States and Iran, the U.S. Interests Section in Tehran can provide only very limited assistance if an American woman married to an Iranian man has marital difficulties and/or encounters difficulty in leaving Iran.
After divorce or death of the husband, a woman has the choice to renounce her Iranian citizenship but any of the couple’s children will automatically be Iranian citizens and their citizenship irrevocable. They will be required to enter and depart Iran on Iranian passports. For a divorce to be recognized it should be carried out in Iran or, if outside Iran, in accordance with Sharia law. Upon divorce, custody of the children normally goes to the mother until the child reaches age 7, at which point custody is automatically transferred to the father. However, if the courts determine that the father is unsuitable to raise the children, they may grant custody to the paternal grandfather or to the mother, if the mother has not renounced her Iranian citizenship and is normally resident in Iran. If the courts grant custody to the mother, she will need permission from the paternal grandfather or the courts to obtain exit visas for the minor children (under age 18) to leave the country. Iran is not a signatory to the Hague Convention on Child Abduction. Please see the Department of state’s International Parental Child Abduction flyer on Iran for further information.

I guess the point of the post is should I tell my friend about this when she comes in? It seems like it would be mean spirited to say anything negative, but then again perhaps there was some reason that I read this 5 hours before she contacted me. Just wondering what you would do in my situation?

beware the port o potty

I was going to do a post about the woman who was stuck on her boyfriend’s toilet for 2 years, but frankly there is something that really turns my stomach regarding the whole story.

How could someone actually let another person sit on their toilet for 2 years? What did he do when he had to go?

Like I said, nasty so I won’t post about it.

Now it did bring to mind this video which I came across a couple of years ago:

If you don't watch the whole thing at least give it to 3min. That is when I started to laugh.

sexless dating?

I watched this video: and it made me immediately think of

This video

I do not see the point in sexless dating. Most of the people I know who are dating without "sex" do everything but "IT". So why not just get down and do "IT" ? Nine Inch Nails song "Closer" says IT all and in a very provacative manner; whoo hoo :)

HOW does this happen???

This is just sick.

VIDEO

The police department in Shreveport, LA must not have checked this officer’s psychological profile very well. In fact, this is so sick that it makes me wonder if there is ever any follow up on Police Officer’s psychological processes. I think you might have to be a bit off to want to be a cop in the first place, so if you are not off when you start there is definitely a case that you will go bonkers after you are on the force for a couple of years.

Surely someone must have seen that this policeman was a danger to people? It is not like the woman attacked him, all she did was ask to make a phone call which I thought was a right when arrested. It is not like she killed his partner; she was pulled over for a first time DUI.

Don’t drink and Drive in Shreveport is all I can say.

right or wrong?

I am sure that for the most part police officers are really professional. However, when I see stories like this, the certain hesitant distrust of people that have absolute power over me comes in play.

Perhaps I am missing something with the story about this woman, but if what happened to her happened to me I would rather have the bad guy get me than ever call the police again.

Army Dreamers

I was thinking about a post that my friend on Metaphysic Storm wrote and for some reason this song by Kate Bush came to mind. It is a depressing anti- war themed song. The young man goes off to war because he does not have the education or the money to do anything else with his life, and returns home dead.

I then continued the thought about his post and this song, Army Dreamers, and started really contemplating our contenders for President. I asked my sister, who has always been a staunch Democrat, who she was voting for and she said emphatically, John McCain.

I was really surprised thinking she would say Hillary, and asked why she was so sure that he was the correct choice. Her reasoning is that we need a president that can manage the war and manage the small emerging countries that have nuclear weapons. It is imperative, she said, that we get this under control and I do not think that anyone else has the experience to get the job done.

Back to the song Army Dreamers, I think part of her decision is also based on the fact she is the mother of a 16 year old boy who does not always achieve in school and does not have the money to buy his way out of a draft. He very well could end up a victim as could everyone’s children if we do not reach some sort of resolution in Iraq and Iran and if we do not have the diplomacy to make peace with emerging nuclear nations.

I still plan to vote for Obama in the primaries, but will keep an open mind based on what I think is best for our future generations in the final election.

Guess who is coming to dinner?

I admit that cat might have better table manners than some people I have dated. None the less how off putting to sit at the table with a cat chowing down on nasty smelly fishy food that looks like dog poop? Of course what her husband is eating does not look much better. eweewee

I think that lady must have too much time on her hands.

Keep your cell phone fully charged

Police cyber track suspected rapist
Police cyber track suspected rapist

This story made the hair at the back of my neck stand on edge too.

Interestingly just 3 weeks ago my friend Susan’s friend’s daughter Missy was abducted in front of her house. The attackers placed her in the trunk of their car and drove off. She had her cell phone in her pocket and was able to call 911. The police traced the call and rescued her, later arresting the suspects.

I am beginning to think the best form of protection if one is not comfortable with a gun or tazer is indeed, a fully charged cell phone.

Trouble the Water

We all may suffer from katerina burn-out, but as this documentary is getting rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival I thought it was worth a mention.

I will wait for the DVD to come out I think...

Directed by Tia Lessin, Carl Deal.
Relegated to the role of refugees in their own country the moment the levees broke, New Orleans residents Kimberly and Scott Rivers document their harrowing struggle against the forces of nature and the evils of man as they nobly attempt to rebuild their lives amidst one of the greatest natural disasters ever to befall the United States. Kimberly Rivers is a musician and filmmaker who were living in New Orleans with her husband Scott when the force of Hurricane Katrina transformed their once-happy hometown into a waterlogged wasteland. In the aftermath of the disaster, the nightly news was filled with images of looting and chaos. Now, as the masses finally receive the opportunity to witness events from an insider's perspective, it quickly becomes apparent that the rampaging waters were only the beginning of the problem, and that the ineptitude of the government and the media in dealing with the disaster did nearly as much damage to New Orleans as the forces of Mother Nature. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

what I thought

There was a large, very wealthy man that walked into the gallery on Saturday.

I bonafide this by the limo and the "healthy team of followers" that accompanied him or stood outside, it was all quite impressive.

I was really excited, thinking this is it! Some one is going to buy my William Tolliver pieces ($35K each).

So he unnamed man strolls in with the entourage and says: I am throwing a party tonight for the Saints. I will lease out your Tollivers for the evening for $200.00. I am like no- if you would like to put $60K on a credit card, I will go ahead and refund at no charge the pieces when you bring them back. That would mean in his home at no charge at all.

He told me that was not acceptable and walked out in a huff. I think I did right as I have no floating insurance policy on the pieces. What do you think? Well all I thought about was this song:

My birthday

My birthday started at midnight as I was born January 1. This is me being safe and walking home from the New Years Eve party. I believe that those are fireworks, but in my state of being at the time, they could have been aliens coming to invade New Orleans.

My friends all asked me the day before the New Years Eve party what I wanted to do for my birthday. I said: Go See Sweeny Todd, is the 11:05 show going to be too early?

They all said no that is great, I said wonderful, I will even purchase the ticktes. We were all supposed to meet at my place at 10:30 am.
I am sitting outside drinking coffee and waiting for 3 people to show up, as the night before I had 3 cancellations due to an overabundance of drink. No problem I am used to this as I have had way too many New Year's day birthdays.

I hear a rather large commotion coming down the street and I think that 2 of my friends must be arguing. Ummm no. They are drunk as skunks (whatever that phrase really means). They stop in front of my house and start yelling " We Love YOU" and "We even got here early" I'm like its 10:30 and they are astounded then in their great shock fall on the ground in front of the gate bathing each other in bloody mary.

My neighbors are finding this most amusing. I kind of found it amusing too - so I reached for my phone and attempted the most important video shot ever. Unfortunately for me and fortunately for them it did not come out. I can honestly say the only thing that bummed me out on my birthday was that the video did not save properly.

Follow the red arrows and this is my friend " Bella " sitting in the Bourganvilla bush. Her Boyfriend is pointing.
This is "Bella's Boyfriend who wanted to prove to me he was okay because he could stand up straight without holding on to the fence.

Well I was down to one last person who did come through and so I went to see Sweeny Todd . The movie was fantasic and made my birthday!

So to round things out I went to the Mayfair where the patrons all put in to buy me drinks and a birthday cake.

I do not want to be critical, as I think getting a cake when you are past 40 is a really nice gesture. However, I can only assume the lady at the cake shop was having a bad day. I am not just questioning the spelling of Birthday, but umm even though my name is not Raspootin - whatever is on the cake is rather off. I see where she was going though.

Anyway, I did have an interesting birthday and encourage everyone to see Sweeny Todd.
